So I decided to sign up to this tri as I knew I would be on holidays and the drive would only be 2.5 hours down the road. I arrived in Kingy on Saturday arvo it was all going to plan a bit unlike my prep.. I didn’t have a bike as it was at the bike mechanic getting fixed and I hadn’t run properly in about 8 weeks. Oh well I mentally tough enough. I checked into the accom. Went to registration quick swim and then watched the army band which was unreal. Dinner at the chanderpaul and I was all set.
I woke early to get to bike check in early as I didn’t pre rack my bike and thought I would be in a fight for space, but in good news Kingy tri has numbered racks. So all checked in my 5.45 and then I had to wait until 9am for my wave start.
I was confident in the swim as I knew I had put in the training and there is a nice current at Kingy. I got out of the water feeling great then onto the bike. A bike I had never ridden before, but I felt ridiculously comfortable, after the 1st lap I felt great.. finished the bike leg feeling confident about the run. The Kingy bike leg is super flat and fast. Started the run with a positive mindset know the Moss street hill was imminent. I got up it the first time without too many worries and went about finding rhythm for the 1st lap. Went through the first lap to get to the meanest turn around point in the history of them. But I knew once I got through the hill again I was well on my way. I ended up having some hammy soreness but it came good in the end. I had enough energy for a sprint finish and finished in 2.51 stoked after a 3.04 in emerald a couple of months ago. I thoroughly enjoyed my post race trip to Byron bay and beers. For now it’s a little bit of rest and then get back into it.
